WHAT IS AN EATING DISORDER?
"The term 'eating disorder' refers to a group of conditions characterised by severe disturbances and difficulties in eating. Eating disorders can have severe effects on a person's emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing" (St Patrick's U. Hospital website)

Up to 200,000 people in Ireland are affected by eating disorders
1.2% of Irish girls may be at risk of developing Anorexia and 2% at risk of developing Bulimia, according to a 2007 study by Prof Fiona McNicolas, Lucena Clinic Dublin.
Estimates of Anorexia and Bulimia among males range from 10% to 25% of total cases (Journal of Biological Psychiatry 2007)
BED is more evenly divided among males and females at 4% of the adult population.

ReplyDeletewatched this clip a really nice guy and very practical and inspiration for other fella's who might find themeselves in this situation.
As a health worker on the clip said boys and young men may find it difficult to talk about complex mental health illness which are affecting their lives - but early interventions do work which is promising to hear. Great site - Susan
